Comparative Habitat Divergence and Fragmentation Analysis of Two Sympatric Pheasants in the Qilian Mountains, China

Habitat fragmentation is considered a major threat to biodiversity worldwide. Two endangered species, the blood pheasant (Ithaginis cruentus) and blue eared (Crossoptilon auritum), co-exist in fragmented forest Qilian Mountains. However, how their habitats react fragmenting landscape remains unclear. Therefore, we carried out field survey core habitat of two species Mountains National Park used MaxEnt Model predict potential distribution assess protection efficiency. Then, utilized modified within-patch categorizing model identify functional fragmentations differentiated. The results showed that utilization was significantly different, with area 18,281 km2 for 43,223 pheasant. highly 27.7% categorized as ‘Interior’ 49.3% ‘Edge’, while more severe 2.1% 50.4% ‘Edge’. Analysis shows large areas pheasants remain unprotected by Park. intense grazing human infrastructure may have effect on currently landscape. Future measurements are needed alleviate this conflict.
